UPCOMING SEMINARS – Employment Standards Act Amendments
In this presentation Chris Drinovz and Melanie Booth will review the extensive changes to the Act that will significantly impact your business. There are changes in the Employment Standards Act which apply to both non-union and union employers, who will now have to “meet or beat” the ESAct requirements in their collective agreements.
Most importantly the Act has extended the limitation period for claims from 6 months to 1 year with the ability of the Branch to extend that period to 24 months. They will explore how that might result in a vacation claim where employers have not followed the Act for more than 24 months.
They will review how the Branch can now hold hearings by telephone conference call and how employers might prepare for an unusual hearing process that can present unique challenges.
It is clear the government intends to beef up its enforcement procedures so employers should be well informed about their obligations. They will leave plenty of time to answer your questions.
